कलाकार बनने का मेरा कभी कोई इरादा या शौक नहीं था, लेकिन जब मैंने रचनाएँ करनी शुरू कीं, तो मुझे एहसास हुआ कि यही मेरी अपनी भाषा है। जो बात मुझे कहनी थी, उसे इसी माध्यम से कहा जाना जरूरी था। मुझे हमेशा से तस्वीरें खींचना पसंद था—लेकिन मैंने कभी खुद को फोटोग्राफर नहीं माना। फोटोग्राफरों के प्रति मेरे मन में असीम सम्मान है। मैं अपने कई कामों के आधार के रूप में कैमरे और तस्वीर का इस्तेमाल जरूर करता हूँ, लेकिन इसका उपयोग केवल एक ऐसी छवि पाने के लिए करता हूँ जिस पर मैं आगे काम कर सकूँ। मेरे काम में जो असल फोटोग्राफी होती है, वह एकरंगी (मोनोकू्रमैटिक) तस्वीर होती है। मैं किसी चीज़ की तस्वीर लेता हूँ और उसमें से एक रंग निकालकर पेंटिंग की पृष्ठभूमि (बैकग्राउंड) तैयार करता हूँ।

I always loved taking photographs - but never considered myself a photographer. I have tremendous respect for photographers. I do use a camera and a photo as a basis for a lot of my work, but I use it as a means to attain an image to work from. The actual photography in my work is a monochromatic photograph. I'll photograph something and extract a color that will then be the background for a painting.
